NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

At the crossroads of the Earth, Life and Human sciences, the Museum has devoted itself daily - and for nearly 400 years - to nature and its relationship with the human species. Rich in history and at the heart of current affairs, the Museum also works for the future.

Environmental awareness and the protection of the planet are at the heart of contemporary debates. Fully committed to these issues, the Museum is a reference point thanks to its varied missions: fundamental and applied research, conservation and enrichment of collections, teaching, expertise and dissemination of knowledge.

As a research centre, the Museum relies on laboratory work and expeditions throughout the world, a wide range of disciplines, exceptional collections and recognised expertise. Its mission is also to share its knowledge through teaching and dissemination activities. The aim is clear: to make knowledge about nature accessible to all and to raise awareness of the need to protect our planet.

The Museum is convinced of biomimicry and has been a supporter of both Ceebios and Biomim'expo since the beginning.

EEL ENERGY

The EEL tidal turbine, energy conversion by undulating membrane.

  • The EEL Energy membrane optimises energy transfer by fluid/structure coupling. This induces a corrugation of the membrane.
  • The membrane undulates under the pressure of the moving fluid. These periodic deformations of the structure are transformed into electricity via an electromechanical system.
  • Energy is converted all along the membrane.
  • A control loop optimises the energy collection according to the incident current.
  • The technology is internationally patented.

R20 REGIONS

R20 - Regions of Climate Action is a not-for-profit international organization founded in 2011 by former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger in cooperation with a number of leading regions and NGO's, the United Nations, Development Banks, Clean-Tech companies, and Academia. Our mission is to accelerate sub-national infrastructure investments in the green economy to meaningfully contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our vision for the future involves inclusive, resilient, and low-carbon societies.

Through collaboration with and support from the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and our partners, we have created a technical and financial ecosystem (R20 Value Chain), which facilitates the identification, structuring, development, and financing of sub-national green infrastructure projects.

OUR MISSION

To accelerate sub-national infrastructure investments in the green economy.

At R20 - Regions of Climate Action, we believe that cities and regions play a central role in the fight against climate change and its impact. In particular, we believe that local and regional actors are uniquely positioned to implement the transition to a low-carbon green economy, whereby natural resources are conserved, fossil fuel use is limited, public health is protected and enhanced, while societies promote equality.

Our efforts are designed to support sub-national governments around the world to develop and finance low-carbon and climate resilient infrastructure projects in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficient lighting and waste optimisation. Although local authorities are at the centre of our work, we recognise that fast-tracking the transition to inclusive, resilient and low-carbon societies requires greater mobilisation and collaboration between a wide range of stakeholders.

Our approach aims to "connect the dots" and foster understanding and interconnection between policy-makers, clean technology providers and public-private investors throughout the whole project development value chain.

The manifesto

OGIC

We design the city of tomorrow

Because the world is changing, because our living and working environments must be rethought with respect to our environment and our individual and collective well-being, because the world's cities are subject to growing tensions and because tomorrow 70% of the population will live in them, we, as developers, must anticipate these changes and accompany them.

We want to build greener, more resource-efficient, more caring and more beautiful cities. We want to put people and their well-being back at the heart of cities.

We will create a new kind of city.

EDEN TECH

We create new microfluidic solutions that revolutionise industry.

From microfabrication kits to biomimetic high-yield systems.

Our goal is to develop solutions to boost microfluidics R&D and to translate these technologies into products.
Whether by providing support to individual innovators, institutions, or at the industrial scale.

Eden Tech (fomerly Eden Microfluidics) was created in 2017 to explore the untapped potential of microfluidics. We began our focus on the design and commercialization of a novel material, which then led to the creation of supporting services for simulation, prototyping, and mass production. Our high performance products enable affordable, rapid, high-quality and high throughput production of chips. This is the heart of our Eden Materials and Eden Lab divisions.

More recently, our efforts have also turned to microfluidics design and engineering solutions to tackle global challenges. We are developing biomimetic systems for 2 key applications: Water Treatment & Artificial Organs. Our designs are particularly well adapted for high-volume microfluidics, processing in the scale of 100 000 liters per day or more. Inspired by nature, massive microfluidic integration will now have the opportunity to revolutionise the industrial landscape. Much like microelectronics did 50 years ago. For more information on these activities head to our Eden Cleantech and Eden Medtech divisions.

XTU

XTU is an award-winning architecture and design firm founded in 2000 by principal architects Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazieres. Located in Paris, France, XTU specializes primarily in academic and environmental research in addition to residential and cultural buildings.

The portfolio of the firm displays several museum projects beginning with the Jeongkok Museum in South Korea followed by the Museum of Civilizations on Reunion Island and the Cite du Vin Museum in Bordeaux. The firm is also responsible for the French Pavilion at the Milan Expo in 2015. In these projects, XTU explores complex geometries with the integration of parametric design. A free and organic approach encourages the use of a wooden structure synchronized in 3D.

Convinced that living organisms will be the biotechnology revolution of tomorrow, XTU engages its innovative research on the themes of bio-inspired and photosynthetic architecture. In addition to these innovations, XTU also develops biofacades for cultivating plankton species on the exteriors of buildings and creating new architectural ecosystems.

The PARISBLOOM project, developed by the XTU architectural firm, specialises in urban algae cultivation and innovates with the development of a biofaçade system combining nature and technology. Its objective is to develop the microalgae sector in the urban environment while improving the energy performance of the building. Interview with Anouk Legendre, architect and leader of the PARISBLOOM project, finalist for the Grand Prix for Sustainable Construction and Living Environment Innovation organised by the Technopôle Domolandes.

Anouk Legendre: " We are looking for partners to develop the market for seaweed for food and medicinal purposes, and for the construction of other buildings" .

TEKASA'I

TEKASA'I

According to the IPCC, one third of Bangladesh is at risk from rising sea levels.
Placed on the water, this structure is built to respond to the various environmental problems of the country. It guarantees safety, comfort and durability. Entirely built in bamboo, the structure is inspired by the mangroves that protect the coastline from erosion and rising waters. The project aims to offer the inhabitants a new living environment, respectful of their culture and environment.

Loïs Tavernier

As an architect and designer, I am passionate about the marine world and contemporary constructions made from natural materials. Sensitive to climatic transformations, I would like through my work to enhance the cultures of each country while proposing new living environments adapted to our uses and respectful of the environment.
