Over the years, the "Challenge" has become one of the highlights of Biomim'expo, and in 2025 it will be renewed and expanded to become the Biomim'expo AWARDS, now offered in 3 categories!

This is THE competition platform for bio-inspired projects, presented as part of the Biomim'expo, and pitched LIVE in the final before expert juries.

The competition at the heart of the expert biomimicry ecosystem, to submit your ideas and projects, research programmes and solutions, and take advantage of the Biomim'expo event to publicise, share and develop them.

3 CATEGORIES - AND A SPECIAL ENERGY PRIZE!

New for 2025! The BIOMIM ENERGY LAB collective is launching a call for bio-inspired solutions as part of the Biomim'expo AWARDS to award a Special Energy Prize !

So, if nature inspires you to come up with innovative ideas and solutions with a positive impact that you'd like to promote and develop, submit your ideas, projects and solutions! Take part in the competition, and you'll be invited to Biomim'expo, where you'll get to meet the ecosystem, perhaps pitch in the final, become the special Energy 2025 Prize winner, and benefit from special support from members of the Biomim Energy Lab collective.

Benefits

For projects submitted by student teams in the CHALLENGE ETUDIANTS, a €3,000 boost shared between the winners to encourage you, and post-event follow-up with interested companies.
For researchers in the RESEARCH category (and their supervisory bodies), this is an opportunity to speak out and display your research work to your peers and other stakeholders. All applications will be published with a summary of the work, mention of partners and supervisors, and links. Finalists and prize-winners are of course specially mentioned and highlighted.
For STARTUPS, a special opportunity to present your solutions to an expert and committed audience, to communicate, to meet potential funds and partners, and also to benefit from skills sponsorship (legal, economic, technical, scientific, communication, etc.) worth between €5 and €10,000 per winner.
For the winner of the Special Energy Prizemeetings and support with the Biomim Energy Lab.

Additional benefit - new for 2025 - PARTNERSHIP WITH THE "OUT OF THE LAB" COMPETITION

The Out of the Lab competition is aimed at a focus target of TRL 3 to 5, in pre-funding (i.e. very early), and with entrepreneurial ambitions..
By applying to the Biomim'expo Awards, you can take advantage of a "fast track" for the Out of the Lab pre-selection phase..
So you can :
- apply for the 2 competitions, or the one of your choice, bearing in mind that the Biomim'expo Awards candidates will be considered by the Out of the Lab organisers (that's the fast track)
In any event, all entrants to the two competitions are warmly invited to Biomim'expo, and all winners will be given a spotlight on stage..

Teaming up with Living Things to invent the future

Design, Architecture, Materials, Agriculture, Chemistry, Energy, Water, Health, Information, City, Commerce, Management, Politics, Economy ... everything is to be reinvented, let nature inspire you.

General eligibility of subjects

Bio-inspiration can be about forms as well as metabolisms, ecosystems, etc., but it cannot be limited to metaphorical inspiration, it must be explicit and integral to the project, which must not be limited to a technical description but must explicitly demonstrate the benefit in terms of resilience or sustainability.

All the participating teams can exhibit their projects at Biomim'expo, but only the finalists will pitch live!

Terms and conditions

In the case of student teams, the project may be led by one or more students, but accompanied by one or more teachers, who must be mentioned in the application. The competition organisers want teachers to be involved, informed and, ideally, involved in the students' participation.

For researchers or teachers, each can submit a project on behalf of their institution or in their own name. The project may be submitted by an individual or a team.

For start-ups, the legal structure must be effective, otherwise you are a project holder (category 1). Start-ups looking to raise funds should indicate this on the form.

Timelines, materials and selection process :

Let's keep it simple! Minimum support: a file of max 10 pages/10 slides ... i.e. in slideshow ppt, keynote or pdf format so that it can be projected easily on a computer, tablet, screen ... you can show it more easily and this requires you to stage your demonstration a little. The file can be written in French or English.

This is the "basic" support, which can be supplemented by a more written document, or on the contrary by a summary note, with separate images (5 maximum), a video (3' maximum), a poster, a model, a prototype... it's up to you.
