The Biomim'Challengeis THE competition for bio-inspired projects integrated into Biomim'expo.
In 2020, the finalists were invited to present their project during a special live broadcast on the Biomim'expo Digital Week TV set.
All the candidate projects were of high quality. Thanks to the JURY who had a hard time deciding between the projects, with the level of the Challenge having been raised to a new level this year.
A huge Bravo and thank you to all the teams, and congratulations to the 4 LAUREATES Biomim'Challenge 2020.
Thank you to the JURY!

ILB - Independent Living Base
Pascal Benveniste
Directly inspired by the functioning of natural ecosystems surrounding the growth of a plant, the ILB project is a concept of indoor food production relying for its resources only on the sun, rain and soil. It is based on the use of a recycled container, which allows for continuous, nomadic and autonomous production of fruit and vegetables, while respecting the natural principles of plant production. The aim of this disruptive innovation, unique in the world, is to be able to produce food in large quantities and of high nutritional quality in all regions of the world, whatever the local conditions, in order to satisfy the growing nutritional needs of the human population in a context of increasing scarcity of arable land. The project is led by 26 people from various professions: doctors, engineers, technicians, practitioners and students. It is directed by Pascal Benveniste and its scientific committee includes 3 people (INRAE, AgroParisTech, SupBioTech employees).
The pitch will be presented in the final on 8 December 2020 during the Biomim'expo Digital Week:

MOLOCAN
Richard Vincent
The issue of water availability for human needs is increasingly important in the current context of global warming, urbanisation and increasing demand due to population growth. One solution lies in the search for a new source, through the capture and storage of atmospheric water. Molocan is a system based on 3 sources of water capture from different living models: rainwater, air humidity and condensation on the internal walls of the structure. The system allows water to be made available both for people and for services such as roads and green spaces. The project has a staff of 10 and is led by Richard Vincent.
The project will be presented in the final on 8 December 2020 during the Biomim'expo Digital Week:

H2OPE
Sébastien Maréchal - Brice Pasquier - David Bourcart
In order to take action against the discharge of waste into the oceans and to curb the pollution of our aquatic environments, H2ope has designed a waste collector specifically designed for these ecosystems: the River Whale. The site to be treated is first studied in order to design the most appropriate solution for the dynamics of the waste and act in a targeted manner. In addition to collection, the waste is sorted and weighed with a view to recycling. The project is led by Brice Pasquier, Sébastien Maréchal & David Bourcart.
The project will be presented in the final on 8 December 2020 during the Biomim'expo Digital Week:

PREFbio-inspired freshness poncho
Anne Laruelle - Inès Meyer
The aim of this project, the French Eco-responsible Cooling Poncho, is to provide a solution for people who are homeless, working outdoors or vulnerable to protect themselves from the heat and minimise the effects of the heat wave. To do this, 2 biological models are used as references: the ribbed cactus and humans themselves, when they live in other latitudes. The PREF provides a technical, social and economic response to the problem of heat by serving as a thermal insulator, as well as preserving the environment, rehabilitating local industrial know-how and creating jobs. The project is led by Inès Meyer zu Reckendorf and Anne Laruelle.
The project will be presented in the final on 8 December 2020 during the Biomim'expo Digital Week:
